How Much Does AI SEO Cost in Australia? 2026 Prices

A laptop showing AI SEO prices for an audit, a monthly retainer and an enterprise plan, beside a calculator and a printed quote

Quick answer: Australian agencies that publish AI SEO prices charge about $500 to $1,500 for a one-off AI visibility audit and $1,000 to $4,000 a month for ongoing work for a small or mid-sized business (prices checked 17 October 2026; where agencies state it, prices exclude GST). One agency we checked publishes AI visibility as an add-on to an existing SEO retainer at $750 to $1,500 a month. Larger, ecommerce and enterprise programmes start around $4,000 to $4,500 a month and reach $15,000 or more.

AI SEO, which overlaps with AEO and GEO, is the work of getting a business found, understood and recommended by ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews. If those terms are new, our guide to AEO vs GEO vs AI SEO explains how they differ. This guide covers the money: what Australian agencies charge for AI SEO services, what each price level or package buys, and which line items are not worth paying for.

What Australian agencies charge for AI SEO

Few agencies publish AI SEO prices. These are the ones we found that do, searching Google Australia and checking agency pages in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, with the figures as written on their own pages on 17 October 2026.

Agency One-off audit Monthly Terms stated
SEO Melbourne From $500 $1,000 to $4,000 No lock-in
AI SEO Sydney $1,000 (AEO and GEO) SEO packages $1,000 to $4,200 + GST Quarterly terms, cancel anytime
Source Digital From $1,500 From $950 (AEO with SEO) Fixed-price quotes
Search Scope (Perth) $1,500, or $3,000 for ecommerce and multi-location From $1,499 to from $3,999, ex GST Month to month, 30 days' notice
AI Format (Brisbane) Not stated From $1,950 Not stated
Click Click Media (Sydney) Free on the first call $2,000 to $3,500 standalone; $4,500 to $6,500 ecommerce or enterprise; $750 to $1,500 as an add-on Ex GST, month to month
OneToo (Melbourne) $8,000 to $15,000 $4,000 to $15,000+ Not stated

A wider check points the same way. Uprise Digital, another agency, reports checking 42 Australian agency pages and finding prices on 8 of them, and puts the realistic middle of the market at "$1,000 to $3,000 a month" for an ongoing retainer.

Range chart of published monthly AI SEO prices from Australian agencies in October 2026: Source Digital from $950, SEO Melbourne $1,000 to $4,000, Search Scope $1,499 to $3,999, AI Format from $1,950, Click Click Media $2,000 to $6,500 and OneToo $4,000 to $15,000 or more

What each price level buys

The price follows the scope. Most published AI SEO packages fall into four levels.

One-off AI visibility audit: $500 to $1,500

An audit asks AI tools the questions your customers ask, records who gets named and which sources are cited, and checks whether AI crawlers can read your site. Expect a written report and a prioritised list of fixes. Search Scope credits its audit fee against follow-on work booked within 30 days, which is a fair test of whether an agency stands behind its findings.

Larger sites cost more to audit. Search Scope charges $3,000 for ecommerce and multi-location businesses, and OneToo's enterprise audit and strategy runs $8,000 to $15,000.

AI visibility added to your existing SEO: $750 to $1,500 a month

If you already pay for SEO, this is often the cheapest route. The provider adds AI crawler checks, answer-first page structure and AI visibility reporting to work it is already doing. Click Click Media publishes this as an add-on from $750 to $1,500 a month.

Standalone AI SEO retainer: $1,000 to $4,000 a month

Most published small-business packages fall in this range. It covers technical fixes, rewriting service pages so they answer buying questions, consistent business details across directories, review and mention building, and monthly reporting. The spread depends mostly on competition and on how much content is written for you each month.

Larger, ecommerce and enterprise programmes: $4,000 to $15,000+ a month

Large catalogues, several markets or a brand with heavy competition need more content, digital PR and tracking across many prompts. OneToo's published tiers run from $4,000 to $6,000 a month for a foundation programme up to $10,000 to $15,000+ for enterprise.

A worked example

Using only the published figures above: a single-location business that already pays for SEO might spend $500 to $1,500 on an audit, then $750 to $1,500 a month to add AI visibility to its existing retainer, plus a tracking tool from US$29 a month if the agency does not supply one.

The costs on top of the agency fee

A retainer is rarely the whole bill. Budget for these as well.

  • Tracking tools. AI visibility tools are priced in US dollars. Otterly.AI lists plans at $29, $189 and $489 a month (USD, excluding tax), the Semrush AI Toolkit is $99 a month for one domain (USD), and Ahrefs lists Brand Radar from $199 a month (USD). Some agencies include tracking; ask.
  • Placements and PR. Paid listings or sponsored placements are often "invoiced at cost" on top of the fee, as Search Scope states. Ask for a cap.
  • Content. If your service pages need rewriting, check whether the retainer includes the writing or only the advice.
  • GST and exchange rates. Every agency above that mentions GST quotes excluding it, and US-dollar tools move with the exchange rate.

What not to pay for

Some line items in AI SEO quotes are not worth money. Google's own guide to its AI features is direct about it.

  • Special AI files or markup. Google says "you don't need to create new machine readable files, AI text files, markup, or Markdown" to appear in Google Search. On llms.txt specifically, it says adding one "will neither harm nor help" visibility in Google Search. A file that costs minutes to make should not be a billable deliverable.
  • Special schema for AI. The same guide says "structured data isn't required for generative AI search". Structured data is still useful for ordinary rich results, but it is not an AI lever worth paying a premium for. This guidance covers Google; other AI tools have not published equivalent rules.
  • Guarantees. Google's advice on hiring an SEO is "no one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google". AI answers change by question and by day, so a guaranteed AI citation is a red flag, not a selling point.

How AI SEO prices compare with ordinary SEO

We could not find a recent, reliable survey of SEO prices in Australia. The best-known global one is Ahrefs' poll of 439 SEO providers, which found SEO "costs $2,917 per month on average", with $501 to $1,000 a month the most common retainer (US dollars, updated August 2024). The figures are in US dollars and cover a global market, so treat them as a rough guide only.

Converted to Australian dollars, the published Australian AI SEO ranges sit in the same broad territory. That fits what Google says about its AI features: they "are rooted in our core Search ranking and quality systems", so most AI SEO work is ordinary SEO done properly. A quote that costs far more than standard SEO should explain exactly what the extra money buys.

How to keep the cost down

  1. Start with an audit, not a contract. A one-off audit shows whether there is a problem worth paying to fix.
  2. Fix the website first. Blocked crawlers, thin service pages and missing prices are one-off fixes. Our AI SEO agency page explains why we build AI search readiness into every website.
  3. Ask your current SEO provider first. An add-on is usually cheaper than a second retainer. If ChatGPT matters most to you, our guide to ChatGPT SEO in Australia shows which checks you can do yourself.
  4. Prefer month-to-month terms. Several agencies above offer them, so you do not have to accept a 12-month lock-in.
  5. Pay for outcomes you can check. Search Console's generative AI report and referrals from ChatGPT and Perplexity in your analytics are free to read. Our AI SEO for business guide shows what those numbers looked like for our own site in its first weeks.

The short version

  • Audits cost $500 to $1,500 for most small businesses; ongoing work costs $1,000 to $4,000 a month.
  • Adding AI visibility to existing SEO costs $750 to $1,500 a month at the one agency that publishes it, and is often the cheapest route.
  • Budget separately for tracking tools, placements, content and GST.
  • Do not pay extra for AI text files, special schema or guarantees.

Frequently asked questions

How much does AI SEO cost in Australia?

Australian agencies that publish prices charge from about $500 to $1,500 for a one-off AI visibility audit, and $1,000 to $4,000 a month for ongoing AI SEO for a small or mid-sized business. One agency we checked publishes AI visibility as an add-on to existing SEO at $750 to $1,500 a month. Larger, ecommerce and enterprise programmes start around $4,000 to $4,500 a month and reach $15,000 or more. Prices checked October 2026.

Is AI SEO more expensive than normal SEO?

Not much. Most AI SEO work is ordinary SEO done properly: technical fixes, clear service pages, consistent business details and earned mentions. The published monthly ranges are broadly in line with what general SEO retainers cost. Be wary of a quote that charges a large premium for the AI label alone.

How much does an AI visibility audit cost?

Published prices for a standalone AI visibility audit range from about $500 to $1,500 for a single-location business, around $3,000 for ecommerce or multi-location sites, and $8,000 to $15,000 for an enterprise audit and strategy. One agency we checked, Click Click Media, offers its audit free on the first call.

Are AI SEO prices GST inclusive?

Usually not. Of the agencies we checked that state it, all quote AI SEO prices excluding GST. Several pages do not say either way, so ask for the GST-inclusive figure before you compare quotes.

Do I need a separate AI SEO agency if I already pay for SEO?

Often no. If your current SEO provider covers technical SEO, content and local listings, ask them to add AI crawler checks, AI visibility tracking and answer-first page structure. Click Click Media, the one agency we found that publishes an add-on price, charges $750 to $1,500 a month, much less than a second retainer.

Can I do AI SEO myself?

Some of it. Checking that AI crawlers can reach your site, writing clear service pages with prices, and keeping your Google Business Profile and directory listings consistent cost time rather than money. Tracking AI mentions at scale and earning press coverage are where paid help usually earns its fee.
